Virginia State Routes 7 and 123 converge at a hill which marks the southwest point of Tyson’s Greensboro neighborhood. Situated on the northeast side of the intersection, 32-story Lumen at Tysons stands as the tallest building in Greensboro and the tallest residential building in the Washington metropolitan area. Due to its position on the hill, the roof of Lumen is the highest point in Fairfax County, just barely edging out the neighboring communications structure.
The apartment tower was completed in 2018 and at the time shared its land bay with a aging lowrise strip that counted a hookah lounge and beer garden among the tenants. Since late 2019, these buildings have been demolished to clear the way for construction of Tysons Central, a new 21-story office highrise scheduled for completion in early 2022. Both buildings are immediately accessible from the Greensboro Metro station.
