The collection of various construction projects near the Wiehle–Reston East Metro station now includes 115 future townhomes being built by local developer EYA. Earlier this year it was reported that an office trailer was set up near Wiehle Avenue, and EYA is using it as a sales center for the neighborhood, which is scheduled to begin delivery next year.
The development is replacing a lowrise office building that was demolished back in March—the property was cleared in the months following. This month, equipment was assembled to begin work on the site infrastructure, and the first units should arrive next year. Construction is scheduled to continue through 2023.
In addition to the townhomes, the site is also zoned to include two highrise multifamily residential buildings facing each other across the extended Reston Station Boulevard. Between the two buildings, up to 300 additional dwelling units and 23,000 square feet of retail could be built. This is a reduction from the 86,000 square feet of retail that the county government advocated for during the rezoning process, which would have resulted in a slightly more urban form to the neighborhood. No details have yet been released for when the multifamily buildings will be developed.
A sales office for the nearby Union Towns community of 26 townhomes is located nearby and construction is commencing on those, which are scheduled to begin occupancy in 2021 as well. The neighborhood is also home to Faraday Park, a pair of under construction apartment buildings with ground-floor retail that will share many amenities with the townhomes. The first phase of Faraday Park will be completed early next year.
