Faraday Park, an apartment community split between two mixed-use midrise buildings, opened last month to its first residents. The first building, on the corner of Reston Station Boulevard and Michael Faraday Drive, has units available for immediate move-in, and the second building, just to the east, looks to be ready in July. Faraday Park is leasing studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments. Building amenities include interior courtyards, a rooftop pool, multiple indoor and outdoor lounge spaces, a private dining room and commercial kitchen, fitness center, and pet spa. As is typical with new construction apartments, each unit features a washer and dryer, as well as modern kitchens with stone countertops.
Faraday Park is part of the series of new developments surrounding the Metro Silver Line’s Wiehle–Reston East station, and is about three blocks away from the Metro station’s entrance. Construction began on the community in 2019, and as part of the project, Reston Station Boulevard has recently been extended a few blocks past its former eastern terminus at Wiehle Avenue. This road extension has been an important public benefit of the project, connecting the 408 apartments and ground-floor retailers to the nearby Reston Station neighborhood. Owners in the adjacent townhome communities being sold by EYA and Knutson are also bound to benefit from this infrastructure improvement.
Another significant public amenity provided by the development is the nearby public park. This green space is located on the south side of the property, and once opened will provide a playground, playing field, public art, and more. A sound wall was constructed to protect the park and residents from noise coming from the nearby toll road.
It was reported during construction that many of the retail spaces (all in the west building) had been pre-leased. Alo Vietnam, A+ Nails, and F45 Fitness were all announced as tenants, although no visible work has commenced on their respective spaces, and no building permits have been pulled yet. Presidential Bank opened a branch in the building in April, a move from a location near Reston’s Home Depot.
Although Faraday Park is the first large new development east of Wiehle Avenue, the four blocks between Faraday Park and Reston Station have all been rezoned to allow for significant mixed-use projects. In addition to the townhomes currently under construction, future approved buildings include an office tower, several residential highrise buildings, and an assisted living facility.
